Team Leader AI/ML Engineer

This role requires a leader with a strategic, big- picture perspective to manage project timelines, allocate and adjust resources effectively, and ensure delivery quality.

We are seeking an AI Team Leader (Manager) to lead our AI research and development team for a collaborative project with Japan.
Leadership & Team Management

Regularly report project status to senior management and proactively manage risks.
Plan, monitor, and adjust project timelines to ensure deliverables are met on schedule.
Collaborate with cross- functional teams (business, marketing, sales) to align AI initiatives with business strategy.
Allocate and optimize resources (human, technical, budget) to achieve project goals efficiently.
Build, manage, and mentor the AI team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Technical & Research Responsibilities

Identify and implement the most suitable algorithms and tools for NLP tasks.
Contribute to optimization problems and system performance improvements (a plus).
Select appropriate annotated datasets for supervised learning tasks.
Train, evaluate, and refine machine learning models using statistical analysis.
Extend and maintain ML libraries and frameworks to scale across projects.
Stay up- to- date with the rapidly evolving AI/ML ecosystem, particularly in LLMs and Generative AI.
Set the research direction for AI, with a focus on LLMs, Generative AI, and NLP applications.

Specific Requirements

Programming Skills: 3+ years of experience in Python, C/C++, SQL, or similar programming languages.Please submit your portfolio or examples of past AI/ML projects.
Team Management Experience: 2+ years of experience leading a technical team (5+ members), including planning, scheduling, and mentoring.
Education: MSc or PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
Technical Expertise:
Familiarity with designing and integrating REST APIs.
Proven experience in developing, deploying, and optimizing ML/DL models.
(Preferred) Experience with optimization problems or educational AI solutions.
Hands- on experience with LLMs and Generative AI.
Excellent communication skills in English (Japanese proficiency is a plus).
Ability to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast- paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience managing distributed or cross- national AI teams.
Experience in educational technology or research projects.
