Mechanical Designer

Creates and modifies the standard designs of equipment, systems, or installations, including standard specifications for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction, for assignments classified as low to medium complexity, using standard design concepts.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical contribution
• Contributes to design reviews and design verification, modifies design, as necessary.
• Creates or reviews engineering drawings, specifications and plans required by manufacturing, fabrication, or construction.
• Designs engineering solutions, including drawings and calculations according to contractual specification.
Customer and Sales
• Participates in project meetings and presents specific aspects of design assignments.
• Contributes to preparation of specific aspects of design assignments to meet the contractual obligations, while adhering to relevant standards, safety, and quality.
Technical leadership and knowledge sharing
• Contributes and shares experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes.
• Shares best practices and lessons- learned documentation across different projects.
Processes and tools
• Uses standard processes and tools and assists in developing new processes and tools for the reuse of technical solutions.
• Reports process and tool inefficiencies and suggests ideas for improvement.
Risk and opportunity management
• Supports technical risk assessments and implements the resulting actions in their projects.
Contract management
• Ensures that Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left- Over Material (PLOM).
• Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from project manager.
Planning and control
• Ensures quality and timely implementation of projects within the targeted cost.
• Follows work plans and cost estimates provided by the project manager.
Supply Chain management
• Collaborates with the Supply Chain function and the Project Manager(s) to meet the contractual requirements.
Manufacturing and Testing
• Updates the engineering deliverables as- built.
• Coordinates with Manufacturing and Testing functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured/staged and tested.
Commissioning and Service
• Coordinates with commissioning / service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned and updates the engineering deliverables post installation and commissioning (if applicable as part of the contract).
