The Elementary Teaching Assistant supports classroom teachers in planning and delivering instruction, managing the classroom, and communicating with students and parents. In addition, the Assistant is responsible for planning and teaching Vietnamese Language Classes, including assessing and reporting student learning.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Planning and Preparation
Demonstrating knowledge of students, including names, families, and academic performance levels
Understand instructional outcomes for all learning experiences and help communicate them to students
Plan lessons for small group instruction of Vietnamese Language lessons, including formative and summative assessment.
Demonstrating knowledge of the SSIS Mission, Core Values, and Curriculum Framework
Contribute to the design of instruction for various learning experiences
Demonstrate knowledge of resources within the school and Vietnam
Contribute to the creation of student assessments
Learning Environment
Manage student behavior in indoor and outdoor spaces: supervise and help students learn respectful behavior throughout the school campus.
Enhance the learning environment: prepare lesson supplies/materials/equipment, display interactive learning displays in classrooms and hallways, locate and/or purchase local materials, and organize and retrieve storeroom supplies.
Contribute to a positive classroom and school environment, including assisting children with practical or interpersonal problems and supporting positive behavior throughout the school.
Independently establish a positive classroom environment for Vietnamese Language lessons.
Contribute to a culture of academic excellence
Support all classroom procedures to ensure smooth management of the classroom
Instruction
Use questioning and discussion techniques that promote critical thinking
Contribute to the use of assessment for learning, and differentiate learning for individual students
Independently provide quality instruction of Vietnamese Language lessons.
