Backend Wordpress Developer PHP/HTML5

Job purpose

We are looking for a WordPress Backend Developer with at least 3 years of experience to join our development team. You will work on custom WordPress websites and multisite/multilingual platforms, focusing on backend development, performance optimization, and API integrations.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in English and will collaborate directly with project managers in France, ensuring smooth communication and high- quality delivery.

Duties and responsibilities
New Website Development

Build and deploy custom WordPress websites from scratch.
Implement backend logic, custom post types, taxonomies, and ACF fields.
Integrate third- party APIs and services into new projects.
Implement multisite and multilanguage setups with WPML.

2 Maintenance of Existing Websites

Monitor, troubleshoot, and fix bugs or performance issues.
Ensure security updates, backups, and WordPress core/plugin updates are applied safely.
Optimize databases, queries, and collaborate with DevOps on server configurations for better performance.

3 Theme, Plugin & Page Builder Customization

Adapt off- the- shelf plugins/themes to meet specific project requirements.
Customize and optimize Elementor and other page builders when required.
Ensure compatibility with multisite and multilingual setups (e.g., WPML).
Develop and extend custom WordPress themes and plugins.

4 Collaboration & Communication

Follow best practices for version control, testing, and code reviews.
Work closely with frontend developers to integrate backend functionality.
Communicate effectively in English with project managers in France about progress, issues, and solutions.

Qualifications

Familiarity with Git / version control workflows.
3+ years of professional WordPress backend development experience.
Very good English communication skills in both written and spoken.
Solid experience with ACF Pro, WPML, WooCommerce.
Strong knowledge of PHP, MySQL, WordPress core, and plugin/theme architecture.
Good knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS to collaborate with frontend integration.
Solid understanding of REST APIs / third- party APIs.
Strong problem- solving and debugging skills.
Experience with Docker or CI/CD pipelines.
